So after one of the best New Years Eves I've ever had, Jason went to work like normal on the 1st. Then about 1pm I went to put Lincoln downstairs for a nap. Thats when everything went down the pooper. I went towards our bathroom and stepped in water. I checked the bathroom thinking it was our toliet overflowing...............oh no............it's our sewer drain backing up!!!!!
So I was literally stepping in sh**!!!! So I immediately called Jason and then called a plumber. Jason hurried home and the fun began. The plumber came and suggested we call the Insurance agent and then call a Water Damage Cleanup crew. They came around 8:30pm and worked till 12:30. It was a nightmare. They ripped up carpet and told us anything that touched the raw sewage we need to throw away. Not only was the storage room soaked, but it went under the wall into the bathroom and also under the family room wall into my craft closet. I had tons of boxes soaked and our brand new entertainment center that we just barely finished, is ruined. This stinks!!!! Yes literally!!!!!!!!!!! So now we are upstairs and it looks like a hazmat area downstairs. They sectioned it off with plastic with a zipper in it to go into the bedrooms to get our stuff. But we can't be down there right now. It would get us sick. They have blowers going 24/7 and on Sunday they came and took the drywall out about 3 feet up every wall it touched. Our bathroom is in disrepair. The vanity and mirror were ripped out and it's a total mess down there. I knew I should have taken down christmas before now. It's all over the place. The guys emptied out the storage room and put everything out in the garage separating the ruined and not ruined. To make a long story short : it's a mess!!!! Happy 2010!!!!!!!!!!! They say it'll take about 6 days to dry and then they sanitize everything and then the repairs will start. So we will be upstairs for a while now. Probably the next month. AAAAHHHHHHH!!!!
Oh well, it could've been a lot worse. They said if I hadn't caught it when I did and didn't have water running at all the whole day, then the water softner would have run it's course and the WHOLE basement would've been ruined. EVERYTHING we own. So we are blessed in that regard, I guess. Looking on the bright side of things. That's all I can do or I'd be crying now. So here are our pictures of the mess.
